Our city centre borough of Hamburg-Mitte is the beating heart of this our Hanseatic city. Its various districts include Billbrook, Billstedt, Borgfelde, Finkenwerder, HafenCity, Hamburg-Altstadt, Hamm, Hammerbrook, Horn, Kleiner Grasbrook, Neustadt, Rothenburgsort, St. Georg, St. Pauli, Steinwerder, Veddel, Waltershof, Wilhemsburg and as far as the island of Neuwerk.

With nearly 280,000 inhabitants, our borough of Hamburg-Mitte with its diverse range of districts and local areas is a borough worth working hard for. We, the Social Democrats, together with you want to make the borough an even more attractive and pleasant place to live.
Our specific objectives are:

• firmly combating social division in the various districts
  
  
• ensuring citizen involvement
  
  
• protecting and creating new affordable housing, including in the inner
  city area
  
  
• developing a traffic model for the 21st century
  
  
• raising the issue of coexistence between young and old in the districts
  
  
• creating a youth welfare policy that does justice to our children and
  young people
  
  
• protecting our environment and providing new space.

Politics must be in tune with the times. If today's challenges are not seen or are ignored, this will endanger the achievements and progress that have been painstakingly fought for. This is why we often ask the questions: how can our changing society maintain its social core? how can the cultural diversity of Hamburg-Mitte be protected?
